Province of Limburg and construction combination Mooder Maas, consisting of the construction companies Dura Vermeer and Ploegam, have officially signed the contract for the implementation of Zonagschappijen Ooijen-Wanssum. The construction combination was the winner of the tender for the extensive North Limburg water safety project. The contract has a value of over € 115 million.

Deputy Patrick van der Broeck: At this moment I have long awaited, and with me many residents in the area. Now we can say: the phase of implementation has begun! .

In the coming years, numerous measures are being taken in the area between the villages of Ooijen and Wanssum to improve water safety: The Old Maasarm is being reactivated, dikes are being shifted and two highwater channels are coming. In Wanssum the harbour is extended and a bypass is built. An integrated approach will not only improve the protection of the area against high tide, but will also create space for recreation and other economic developments. The reopening of the Old Maasarm and other restorative interventions in the riverbed also creates a unique, water-rich natural landscape.

PALMAX will process approximately 1750 tonnes of reinforcement steel, incl. additional work.
